About
Camp Creek Lake, located on the border of Watersound and Seacrest, is one of our favorite places to paddle. Boasting several different scenery types in one adventure, this tour starts off in the populated areas of the lake before heading north into the wooded portion within Deer Lake State Park. We’ll loop around and head for the southern end, passing under the neighborhoods iconic walking bridges and emerging where the shoreline transforms into sea oats and sand dunes. Suddenly we’re at the beach, staring at the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. If the conditions are good, we’ll continue our tour in the Gulf for a while before returning to the lake and heading back to our launch point.
Found only in a handful of places in the world, South Walton’s dune lakes are a must see while visiting the Florida panhandle. These 15 freshwater-fed coastal beauties occasionally turn brackish as their natural spillways open up to the Gulf of Mexico. This creates a rich and uncommon diversity of life that thrives in this ever-changing environment. We like to call it home, and we’d love to show you around!
